Mayor Adam Azim and former Maafannu West MP Mohammed Falah have filed their nominations for the post of President of Male in the by-election to the opposition’s National Assembly to be held next month.
The deadline for nominations for the constituency by-elections expired on Sunday, and MDP has now announced the names of its candidates.
About 50 candidates are contesting the by-election for 20 constituencies, and the Male constituency president’s post is the most coveted. According to the candidate list, both Azim and Falah are contesting the seat.

The next election among the cities will be held for the post of President of Thinadhoo. Former Thinadhoo North MP Abdul Mughnee and Ahmed Gais, who was the Deputy Managing Director of HDC in the previous government, are contesting for the post.
The by-elections to the MDP National Assembly are being held to elect presidents of six new parliamentary constituencies, which fell vacant after the party's former president Mohamed Nasheed defected and created The Democrats last year.
