The government has decided to provide health insurance to national athletes and officials starting from next year.
The announcement was made by Sports Minister Abdulla Raafiu at a press conference held at the President's Office on Tuesday.
Rafiu said the insurance of players and officials has already been proposed to be included in next year's budget.
“God willing, insurance will be arranged for our national athletes and officials next year,” he said.
However, the minister did not give any further details about the decision.
While Maldivian athletes are representing Maldives in many international competitions, such athletes and their accompanying officials do not receive insurance from the government.
