Ex-deputy tax chief Asma appointed as reform commissioner
The commissioner will report directly to the finance minister and the minister's advisor
Former Deputy Commissioner of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), Asma Shafeeu, has been appointed as the Commissioner of Reform at the finance ministry.
The finance ministry announced the appointment on Tuesday, following the earlier decision on June 4 to introduce the role as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s financial position.
As Commissioner of Reform, Asma Shafeeu will lead and advise on key reform initiatives. The finance ministry outlined the responsibilities of the role as follows:

Leading the implementation of the national reform agenda.

Advising the finance minister and the minister’s advisor on reform-related matters.

Overseeing economic restructuring activities.

Developing and implementing strategies to ensure macroeconomic stability and resilience.
The Commissioner of Reform will report directly to the finance minister and the minister's advisor, aligning efforts with broader economic reforms and financial sustainability goals.
