Fatimath Ashan has been appointed as the Managing Director of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), a subsidiary of the State Trading Organisation (STO).
Ashan's appointment marks the first time a woman has been named the head of an STO subsidiary.
She previously held senior roles within STO and served as the Deputy CEO of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), another subsidiary under STO.
The appointment follows the resignation of Ismail Suhail, the former Managing Director of FSM, on the 26th of last month. Suhail stepped down amid investigations into an oil theft and money laundering case involving FSM. The case has resulted in the dismissal of more than 60 employees.
