A Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) ship carrying oil was salvaged after running aground on the reef off GA. Nilandhoo island.
The incident occurred on Sunday as the vessel was supplying oil to islands in Gaaf Alif Atoll and Gaaf Dhaalu Atoll.
Speaking to Atoll Times on Tuesday, Nilandhoo Council President Nasih Ibrahim stated:

The ship ran aground around 6 pm Sunday.

Salvage operations were completed later that evening.

The ship was carrying oil, but there was no oil leakage reported.
While the oil remained contained, the reef sustained significant damage. Nasih estimated the damage to be 4 to 5 feet deep over a stretch of 100 feet.
The council has reported the incident to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is in the process of submitting photographs and a formal letter regarding the damage.
"We are still discussing the measures to be taken," Nasih said.
FSM has not issued a comment on the incident.
