State Trading Organization (STO) Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim Sunday announced that the first shipment of lemons has already arrived as part of the company's preparations to ensure a smooth and affordable supply of essential goods for the upcoming Ramadan.
Every year, food prices tend to rise during Ramadan, with some essential items becoming scarce in the market. To address this issue, STO is taking proactive measures to prevent shortages and price surges.
In a post on X, Shimad stated that STO will monitor the market, identifying items that typically see price hikes during Ramadan. The organization will track daily price fluctuations.
Shimad had earlier shared with Atoll Times that STO has compiled a list of essential Ramadan food items that are already becoming more expensive. To counter potential shortages, STO has begun importing these products in bulk ahead of the fasting month. By stocking up early and making these goods available through STO supermarkets, the company aims to prevent market shortages and stabilize prices.
"We are identifying the items that become expensive and ensuring their availability through STO supermarkets. Instead of focusing on specific brands, we are introducing high-quality but more affordable alternatives," Shimad said.
