President Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday appointed Mohamed Anas as the Chair of the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB).

Anas holds a Master of Business Administration from the National University. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance and as Audit Manager at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). He has also been an associate professor at the Maldives Business School.

His appointment follows the dismissal of former PCB Chair Hamdhy Ageel on 12th of last month. The President has not provided a reason for this decision.

Hamdy’s removal came shortly after the PCB issued two circulars to state-owned companies. One circular addressed the payment of Ramadan allowance, while the other outlined measures to reduce corporate expenses.

The PCB has instructed government-owned companies to refrain from providing additional payments in the form of gifts to employees during Ramadan and to implement cost-cutting measures.
