President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government is implementing policies to ensure affordable prices for fruit and vegetables.
The president made the remarks while speaking on Rayyithunnaa Eku, a podcast hosted by the President’s Office.
Responding to a public query on government measures to support public health, the president stated that a policy has been introduced to ensure food safety, with the aim of increasing domestic food production. He added that efforts are underway to cultivate imported fruit and vegetables locally, thereby reducing market prices.
The president noted that the prices of commonly imported fruit and vegetables supplied through the State Trading Organisation (STO) could be further reduced by securing better purchasing agreements.
The president stated that further details of these initiatives will be announced as arrangements progress.
