MIFCO to export fish directly from Addu next month
The company said that value addition work on fish in Addu is planned to begin this year.

MIFCO will begin exporting fish directly from Addu next month instead of transporting it to Huvadhoo.
In a press release on Saturday, MIFCO stated that the decision is part of its strategy to add value to fish purchased in the Maldives. The company said that value addition work on fish in Addu is planned to begin this year.
MIFCO noted ongoing challenges in providing services to the fishing industry in the Maldives, including significant delays in repairs and maintenance of fishing vessels, infrastructure, machinery, and other equipment. As a result, priority is being given to essential repairs and equipment replacement.
The government, with assistance from multilateral development finance, is making investments to expand fish procurement and storage capacity.
MIFCO also reported efforts to improve the fish procurement situation in Kooddoo during the seasonal decline in fisheries, including measures to increase processing capacity. These include repairs to port roads and upgrades to the local production factory in Kooddoo.
Repairs to the Felivaru cannery are scheduled for completion this month.
