MMA launches challenge to promote Islamic finance

Submissions must be relevant to the Maldivian context and address the designated topics of the competition.

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced the Tamweel Impact Pitch Challenge as part of its efforts to promote Islamic finance. The competition is open to both Maldivians and foreigners and will allow participants to present solutions to current financial challenges.

Two Categories The challenge is divided into two categories:

  • 1-

    New Solutions for Islamic Finance Targeted at youth, startups, students, teachers, and social entrepreneurs. Designed for Sharia-compliant ideas that can strengthen the financial system. Open to individuals over 18 and teams of three members. Winners will receive cash prizes of up to MVR 30,000, along with funding and mentorship opportunities.

    Islamic Finance System in the Light of Research and Policy

  • 3-

    Geared towards researchers, professionals, and institutions. Focused on research and policy-based proposals for the growth, sustainability, and social impact of Islamic finance. Topics include financial awareness campaigns, institutional capacity building, and policy formulation. Participants will compete for a total prize pool of MVR 100,000.

Part of Tamweel Finlet Festival The Impact Pitch Challenge is part of the MMA’s Tamweel Finlet Festival, which aims to empower communities through a stronger financial system and sustainable economic development.

The festival will feature six activities, including:

  • Impact Pitch Challenge

  • Finlett Challenge

  • Econquest Debate Tournament

  • Future Finance Essay Competition

  • Values and Vision Art Competition

  • Short Video Making Contest
