Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Chairman Mohamed Umar Maniku, widely known as MU Maniku, has been admitted to intensive care.
Maniku, a shareholder in Universal Enterprises, is receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where he has been undergoing medical care for about a month.
He is recognised for his central role in introducing tourism to the Maldives 53 years ago and for his leadership in resort development and operation.

He has also been honoured with national awards for his contributions to tourism, receiving the National Award of Recognition in 1982 and the Honorary Award in 2002.
