Contract signed to develop fish processing facility in Kandholhudhoo

A contract to develop a fish processing facility with cold storage and a fish processing port in R. Kandholhudhoo was signed on Saturday night.
The agreement was signed at an official ceremony held in R. Dhuvaafaru to mark Fishermen’s Day.
The contract was signed by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam on behalf of the government and by Managing Director Hassan Ibrahim representing the contractor, Three Way Enterprises.
Details of the agreement have not yet been made public.
Kandholhudhoo was affected by the 2004 tsunami, and development of fisheries infrastructure on the island has been raised by residents in recent years. During coverage of the 20th anniversary of the tsunami last year, several residents told Dhuvaafaru that the development of Kandholhudhoo could support fisheries activity and create economic opportunities for nearby communities, including Dhuvaafaru.
