Velana International Airport (VIA) handled 89,163 tonnes of cargo last year, marking a 10 per cent increase compared to the previous year, the airport said on Monday.
According to statistics released by VIA, inbound cargo accounted for 66,840 tonnes, while outbound cargo totalled 22,323 tonnes during the year.
The airport also handled 16,372 tonnes of transshipment cargo, representing a 22 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
Of the transshipment cargo, 3,192 tonnes were sea-to-air shipments and 13,180 tonnes were air-to-air shipments, the figures showed.
VIA recorded 524 freighter movements over the year.
The airlines that transported the highest volumes of cargo to and from the airport included Afcon, Fly Vaayu, Mjets, Qatar Cargo, National Airlines, Air Master and MNG Airlines.
