The State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee of Parliament on Tuesday agreed to seek information in writing from the State Trading Organization (STO) regarding disruptions in cooking gas supply and allegations of corruption involving its subsidiary, Maldive Gas.
The decision followed a motion submitted by Maavah MP Ahmed Shakir of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), requesting clarification on the matter.
During the SOE Committee meeting, Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim said Maldive Gas operates as a subsidiary of STO and proposed that information be obtained directly from the parent company. He said STO has reviewed the issue and taken action, adding that STO is currently handling gas procurement.
The committee agreed to request details from STO through written correspondence.
