The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a request to the Prosecutor General's Office to prosecute Abdulla Maumoon, the Managing Director of Maldive Gas in the government of President Abdulla Yameen, in a large bribery case.
The ACC has said that during his tenure as Managing Director of Maldive Gas, Maumoon took MVR 3.1 million as bribe from a foreign company during a transaction to procure cooking gas Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
"The money was also deposited in several companies allegedly linked to him and some of his family members," the ACC said.
The ACC has asked the prosecutor's office to file seven charges against him in connection with the case:

Charge of taking bribes in connection with a state service

Charged with obtaining illegal benefits by using the influence of office

Charge of attempted offense under the Penal Code

Charge of attempting to commit a crime

Charge of conspiracy to commit a crime

Charge of accepting a bribe

Charge of abuse of influence in official capacity for obtaining benefits
In addition, the ACC has decided to recover MVR 3.1 million involved in the case.
