The passport of the former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Ahmed Saeed, has been withheld following an investigation into financial matters related to the company.
According to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives, the decision was made in connection with a pending case. Saeed’s passport was seized after the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) requested a travel document restriction. This action followed the PGO’s move to submit the matter to the Criminal Court. Saeed did not object to the travel ban, and the court approved the restriction.
The PGO confirmed that the restriction is now in effect. A statement was issued by PGO media official Shahid, who referenced an internal intelligence report as the basis for the submission to court. No further details were disclosed.
Saeed, who previously held the position of Managing Director at Fenaka, is under scrutiny for several matters, including procurement procedures and possible links to corrupt practices. Following his resignation, the ACC has been investigating 31 related cases.
The ACC launched formal inquiries in April of this year. These are based on a financial plan identified in L. Maamendhoo, which involved utility operations under Fenaka. Allegations of misuse of that plan are also under investigation.
