The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted a request to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) seeking charges against three former senior officials of Fenaka Corporation in connection with the misuse of state funds allocated as petty cash for a major power project.

The case, which surfaced in April 2023, involves the alleged embezzlement of MVR 623,208 that was meant for the Hithadhoo Central Power Station (CPS) project in Addu City.

According to the ACC, the funds were diverted for personal use, including meals, phone bills, and household expenses—clear violations of Fenaka’s petty cash management regulations.

On Thursday, the ACC formally requested the PGO to initiate criminal proceedings against the three individuals involved in the case. The accused are:

  • Ahmed Sathish Saeed, then Deputy Director at Fenaka’s Projects Department, from Haseeneevila, S. Feydhoo

  • Mohamed Aasid, then Senior Engineer, Projects Department, from Nirolhumaage, Th. Thimarafushi

  • Hussain Asir, then Supervisor at Fenaka, from Falhoamage, S. Feydhoo

All three held key positions during the time of the alleged offense and are accused of misusing company resources in a coordinated manner.

The ACC has filed four charges against the trio:

  • 1-

    Soliciting to commit a crime

  • 2-

    Conspiracy to commit a crime

  • 3-

Abuse of official influence for personal gain

  • 4-

Embezzlement of state property and money

In addition to recommending prosecution, the ACC has ordered Fenaka to recover the full amount lost to the state due to the unauthorised expenditures.
