Govt to supply fuel to fishing vessels at STO rates
The decision follows concerns raised by fishermen over fuel costs and their impact on fishing activity.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced that fishing vessels will be able to purchase fuel at State Trading Organisation (STO) rates from Wednesday.
The Ministry said arrangements have been completed to supply fuel at these rates to vessels registered under the ‘Fahi Hakatha’ programme. A list of distribution points has also been released.
The decision follows concerns raised by fishermen over fuel costs and their impact on fishing activity.
According to the Ministry, fuel will be available at the following locations: HA. Ihavandhoo, HDh. Hanimaadhoo, Sh. Milandhoo, B. Eydhafushi, F. Nilandhoo, K. Himmafushi, R. Dhuvaafaru, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, Lh. Felivaru, GA. Kooddoo, Fuvahmulah, S. Hulhumeedhoo and Hulhumalé Jetty.
Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam said the government is working to manage fuel costs without transferring the burden to fishermen.
