Govt opens bids for resort development in 6 atolls
The projects include the lease of lagoons for reclamation-based resort development, as well as the lease of uninhabited islands for tourism projects.

The Ministry of Tourism has invited bids for the development and operation of tourist resorts in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Laamu and Addu atolls.
The projects include the lease of lagoons for reclamation-based resort development, as well as the lease of uninhabited islands for tourism projects.
Under the tender, the following lagoons have been opened for resort development:

HA. Maadhuni Faru 1, 2 and 3 – three plots of 200 hectares each.

HDh. Makunudhoo Faru 2 – 200 hectares.

HDh. Maafaru Faru 1, 2 and 3 – 200 hectares each.

Sh. Gonaa Faru 1, 2 and 3 – three plots of 200 hectares each.
One 200-hectare plot from each lagoon will be leased for the development of a resort with a minimum capacity of 150 beds.
The deadline for submitting bids for these lagoon projects is 18 November.
The ministry has also invited bids for resort development on two islands.
Sh. Nalandhoo, covering 63.99 hectares, will be leased for the development of a resort with a minimum of 200 beds.
N. Farumuli, which has a land area of 0.41 hectares, will also be leased. The project allows reclamation of up to 15 hectares within a lagoon measuring 71.18 hectares and requires the development of a resort with a minimum capacity of 150 beds.
Bids for the N. Farumuli project must be submitted by 17 November, while bids for Sh. Nalandhoo close on 23 November.
The ministry has also announced separate tenders for the development and operation of resorts under a halal tourism model.
The projects include:

HDh. Makunudhoo Lagoon – 200 hectares, with a minimum of 150 beds.

L. Fonagaadhoo – 8.18 hectares, with a minimum of 100 beds.

Addu Dhonhera – 8.38 hectares, together with an adjoining uninhabited island of 0.85 hectares, with a minimum of 100 beds.
According to the ministry, all sites offered under the tenders will be leased for a period of 50 years.
