Majority of projects to be completed in 2027, says president

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that most government-led development projects are expected to be completed next year, with the remaining projects continuing into 2028.

The President made the remarks during this week's episode of the President's Office podcast, The Pulse, where he discussed the status of development projects being implemented across the country.

According to President Muizzu, projects are currently progressing at different rates across islands, while some have experienced delays due to various factors, including economic challenges.

He said the government has been working to address the issues that led to project delays and that activities on a number of projects are expected to resume in the near future.

The President noted that the administration has prepared a detailed implementation timeline covering projects across different sectors and constituencies.

He said the schedule has been designed to manage projects according to the needs and circumstances of individual areas.

Speaking about the government's targets, President Muizzu expressed confidence that a substantial number of projects would be completed within the next two years.

“While some projects will wrap up this year, 2027 will overall be the year when the largest number of projects reach completion,” he said.

“Based on how things are currently scheduled, after finalising several projects within this year, we are aiming to complete the majority of them next year.”

The President added that projects not completed in 2027 would continue into 2028.

The remarks come as the government continues work on infrastructure, housing and public service projects across the Maldives, several of which have faced delays linked to financing and implementation challenges.
