STO plans to build a shopping mall in Hulhumale Phase II.
Residents of the recently populated Hulhumale Phase II have expressed concerns over the lack of shops where they can easily get their essential supplies at affordable prices.
The state-owned trading company's Managing Director Hussein Amr made the announcement on Twitter Monday evening, in response to a complaint by a user who tagged Amr and complained over not getting essential items at cheap prices.
Amr, however, did not provide further details.
An STO spokesperson told Atoll Times on Tuesday that an agreement will be signed with HDC, which oversees Hulhumale development, soon. Further details will be revealed after the agreement signing, he added.
Meanwhile, STO is planning to upgrade its shop in Hulhumale Phase 1 and open it as the Maldives' first cashierless shop. The company's MD Amr said on Twitter on Monday that the shop will be opened in March.
