Private airline Villa Air has announced plans to retire its Flyme brand and adopt its namesake Villa Air for the company's airline business.

In a circular sent to staff on Wednesday, parent company Villa Air, owned by tourism tycoon Gasim Ibrahim, said the company is in the process of rebranding the airline to its namesake 'Villa Air' from Flyme.

"As part of this change, the website and email domain names will be changed from flyme.mv to villaair.aero. This will mean that the company's email address will bear the suffix '@villaair.aero' once the change is completed," the circular read.

"During the initial change process to '@villaair.aero' email addresses, there will be no interruption to incoming emails. Any email received to '@flyme.mv' email addresses will be automatically synchronised to your accounts."

Gasim, who is also the leader of Jumhooree Party and is the MP for Maamigili constituency, founded Villa Air in 2011 and its flight operations began on 14 March 2011. The company also operates Maamigili Airport and Kaadedhdhoo Airport.
