Maldives' 2023 tourist arrivals see 23% growth, cross 440,000

89,646 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first 15 days of this month

A total of 440,059 tourists visited the Maldives this year as of Wednesday, an increase of 23.8% over the same period last year, according to the official figures.

According to the data released by the tourism ministry on Friday:

  • 89,646 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first 15 days of this month

  • In the first 15 days of March last year, 74,657 tourists arrived

  • A total of 355,433 tourists arrived in the Maldives between January and March 15 last year

According to the figures, an average of 5,976 tourists currently arrive in the Maldives every day, with tourist spending 7.8 days on average in the country.

Top five source markets:

  • Russia – 54,537 tourists (12.4% of total tourists)

  • India – 47,462 tourists (10.8% of total tourists)

  • UK - 41,126 (9.3% of total tourists)

  • Italy – 39,919 tourists (9.1% of total tourists)

  • Germany – 30,028 tourists (6.8% of total tourists)

France, the United States, China, Switzerland and Poland also feature among the top 10 source markets for Maldives tourism.

According to the tourism ministry, there are currently 1,228 tourist facilities operating in the Maldives. It has 60,362 beds.

Currently, 36 international airlines operate scheduled flights to the Maldives.
