Addu City Council has opened bidding for the development, operation, and management of a tourism facility on the uninhabited island of Savaahili, located near Feydhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo.

The council first resolved to develop the island for tourism use on 18 February 2021. A subsequent decision made at a council meeting on 14 February 2024 approved the formal announcement inviting tourism-related investments on the island.

The project is set to be developed across 858,462 acres of land and lagoon in Savaahili. The facility is intended to support other resorts, guesthouses, and tourism operators in Addu.

According to the announcement, the proposed development must include at least ten rooms, restaurants, bars, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a watersports centre, spa and wellness centre, a swimming pool, and other tourism-related infrastructure. The lease period for the development area will be up to 50 years.

Bidding documents will be available for purchase from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily at the council office or by email from 9 April to 20 April. Interested parties opting for email must complete the application form on the Addu City Council website and send it to finance@adducity.gov.mv.

Bid Information:

  • Price of Bid Book: MVR 15,000 for local companies (100% Maldivian shareholding); USD 1,000 for foreign companies

  • Pre-Bid Meeting: 10 a.m. on 22 April (online)

  • Bid Submission Deadline: 1 p.m. on 15 May at the Addu City Council office
