Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which was set up to find solutions to the housing crisis in Male region, has been rebranded as Urbanco on the occasion of its 22nd anniversary.
HDC's new branding was announced at an annual day function at Central Park on Saturday evening.
In a statement, HDC said the company was rebranded to Urbanco to enhance the services provided to the people and focus on its operations as the largest urban development company in the country.
"The company's mission is to expand the company in line with the government's vision in different parts of the country, using the experience and achievements it has gained, to work closely with the councils to do things that benefit the people," the statement said.
Under the Urbanco brand:
-
The company can now expand its services
-
The brand's origin is seen as Urbanco as the partner who can make people's dreams come true
-
The company has also launched its new mobile app, the Urbanco app
-
The app will bring together all the services offered by the company
HDC was first established at the President's Office as Hulhumale Development Unit. In 2001, Hulhumale Development Corporation was formed after Hulhumale Phase I was acquired and the first flats and buildings were constructed there.
The name of Housing Development Corporation was changed by the MDP government that came to power in 2008.
HDC came out as a new brand called Urbanco after it was stripped of its primary responsibility to provide affordable housing. At present, the main part of the government's housing projects is being carried out by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
In addition to Hulhumale, the industrial island of Thilafushi has also been handed over to HDC. So now it has become a company that has to take on a lot of responsibility for urban development.
