
China becomes 7th biggest source market for Maldives tourism

According to statistics released by the tourism ministry on Thursday, 27,700 Chinese tourists have arrived in the Maldives since January 18. Earlier, China was at the eighth spot among the top source markets.
Before Covid-19, China was the single biggest source market for Maldives tourism. Chinese tourists started arriving after Covid in January, but compared to the pre-Covid period, the number of tourists arriving from the country is less.
According to the tourism ministry, 666,830 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year. This is an increase of 19.6% over the previous year.

The US, China, France, Switzerland and South Korea also feature among the top 10 source markets.
According to the tourism ministry, there are 1,233 tourist facilities with 60,538 beds operating in the country. Currently, 37 international airlines operate scheduled flights to the Maldives.
