China ranked Maldives' biggest tourist market in July

According to Immigration figures, 145,620 tourists arrived in the Maldives in July, which is an increase of 9% over the same period last year.

China was the single biggest tourist source market to the Maldives last month, according to figures released by Maldives Immigration on Wednesday.

According to Immigration figures, 145,620 tourists arrived in the Maldives in July, which is an increase of 9% over the same period last year.

According to the figures, 28,134 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives last month. 

  • 17,683 visited from Russia, which had the second highest number of tourists

  • Third highest number of tourist arrivals came from India; 11,963

Chinese tourists resumed travelling to the Maldives in January after the Covid-19 pandemic. Three Chinese airlines currently operate flights to the Maldives.

China was the single biggest source market before Covid.

July highlights:

  • 5,644 arrivals on the day the highest number of arrivals was recorded

  • Daily arrivals stood at 4,854

  • 3,879 tourists arrived on the day the lowest number of tourists was recorded

According to the latest figures released by the tourism ministry, 1.17 million tourists have so far arrived in Maldives this year.

Top three source markets: 

  • Russia - 131,987 tourists

  • India - 1,24,802 tourists

  • China - 100,105 tourists
