Lanka's CMC awarded Hulhumale land reclamation for land scheme
The project also involves reclaiming land from Thilafushi industrial island, and the lagoon next to the 'Dhiyanaru' lagoon in Kaafu Atoll.
Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) of Sri Lanka has been awarded a contract to reclaim land from Hulhumale phase 2, K. Thilafushi industrial island, and the lagoon next to the 'Dhiyanaru' lagoon in Kaafu Atoll.
Under an agreement signed between Urbanco and CMC on Sunday, the company will reclaim:
-
Hulhumale Phase II (62.6 hectares)
-
Dhiyanaru Lagoon 2 (24.6 hectares)
-
Thilafushi Area D (9.6 hectares)
CMC is currently reclaiming land in B. Bileiyfahi, B. Thulhadhoo and Th. Villufushi for airport development projects.
Urbanco has drastically altered the master plan to reclaim the lagoon area of Hulhumale Phase 2 where the previous government had decided to develop a cruise terminal.
The government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to build the cruise terminal at the lagoon next to the 'Dhiyanaru' lagoon or Dhiyanaru Lagoon 2.
Draws for plot allocation under the government's Binveriya scheme are ongoing since Tuesday. Some of the recipients have received plots from the area earmarked for reclamation.
A total of 1,351 plots will be allotted in Hulhumale under the Binveriya scheme:
-
20 plots for applications of more than eight applicants
-
31 plots for applications of seven
-
60 plots for applications of six
-
100 plots for applications of five
-
180 plots for applications of four
-
370 plots for applications of three
-
340 plots for applications of two
-
250 plots for applications of single applicants
Housing ministry has earlier said that the permanent registration of land will be handed over to all land recipients before November 11.
In July, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the administration plans to allocate 2,000 housing plots in Gulhifalhu while reserving another 2,000 for the housing scheme in Giraavarufalhu.
Land reclamation in Giraavarufalhu is underway and has already reclaimed 20 hectares of land.
