Hulhumale phase 3 reclamation resumes
Fazul also assured that land would be handed over to all the residents of the city who received land under the 'Binveriya' scheme.
The project to dredge the west side of Hulhumale to give land to the people of Male was suspended by the previous government but has now been resumed by this government.
Maldives' Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) has been commissioned to dredge the Hulhumale lagoon on September 22.
The dredging work is being carried out in three stages. After the first stage was completed, the second stage of the project started on Saturday.
According to Urbanco, 63 hectares of land will be added to Hulhumale as Phase III of the project to address the housing crisis in the city.
Urbanco Managing Director Fazul Rasheed said on Saturday that the dredging work in Hulhumale has never stopped. The dredging projects started by the last government are progressing fast.
Fazul also assured that land would be handed over to all the residents of the city who received land under the 'Binveriya Scheme'.
The project was planned to be carried out in three stages. They include:
-
Stage one will dredge 10 hectares
-
Stage two will dredge 29 hectares
-
Stage three will dredge 24 hectares
At the time the project was put on hold, 16% of the reclamation was completed overall and 9% of all the works planned for phase three were completed, an Urbanco official told Atoll Times earlier.
