Only Maldivian tour operators and travel agents will be allowed to represent Maldives at fairs to promote Maldives' tourism.
Foreign tour operators and travel agents operating in Maldives also participate in the fairs.
However, the rule has been changed and only Maldivian travel companies will be allowed to represent Maldives at the fairs, MMPRC Managing Director Fathimath Thaufeeg said in an X post on Wednesday.
She said with the revised membership policy, priority will be given to Maldivian tour operators, travel agents and companies registered in Maldives.
The change was brought to increase the participation of Maldivians in foreign tourism fairs and promote the Maldivian tourism industry, she said.
Earlier, MMPRC Deputy Managing Director Mohammed Bassam Adam told Atoll Times that the MMPRC has decided to increase the participation of locals in its efforts to promote Maldives’ tourism. He said the decision was taken because the tourism industry in Maldives is best felt and described by the people of Maldives.
