Cabinet on Sunday decided to set up a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) like MTCC to accelerate the infrastructure development works.
The new company will be established to end the stagnation of the government's infrastructure development works, minister at the President's Office Abdulla Nazim told a press conference at the President's Office.
While the government-owned MTCC is responsible for most of the port, road and sewerage and water projects, it is overloaded, Nazim said.
"... As you know, MTCC is already overwhelmed with a lot work. The number and scope of works are more than they can handle," he said.
Nazim said the cabinet also discussed measures to strengthen the management of government companies.
