STO and MPL have decided to start bunkering services in Maldives this month.
An STO official told Atoll Times on Monday that the Marine Angel vessel is now outside the port of Kulhudhuffushi.
The second vessel, Marine Bella, is also sailing to Maldives, he said.
Along with international bunkering services in the northernmost part of Maldives, additional maritime services will also be provided:
-
STO will provide offshore bunkering services
-
MPL will provide pilotage and other maritime services
The service will be launched this month with the first floating bunkering service.
Two barges with a capacity of about 4,000 tonnes will be used to carry fuel.
The northern region is an important area for international maritime traffic and the government says the provision of bunkering and maritime services in the north will be of great benefit to Maldives.
STO signed an MoU with Vitol, the world's largest private energy company, on March 13 to implement an international bunkering project in Ihavandhippolhu.
