The price of onions in the Maldives has begun to decrease after a recent surge.
By the middle of this month, onion prices had climbed above MVR 50 per kilogram, and the supply in the market became scarce.
In response to the situation, the government announced that the State Trading Organisation (STO) would import onion shipments to the Maldives to stabilise prices and address the supply shortage.
While specific details about these shipments were not disclosed, onions are now being sold at MVR 15 per kilogram in STO supermarkets.
In other shops around the market area, prices range between MVR 25 to 30 per kilogram.
