Employees of Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL), which runs the Maldives' main Velana International Airport (VIA), have received a bonus of MVR 25,000 this year.
A senior official confirmed to Atoll Times that this decision reflects the company’s commitment to rewarding its workforce.
The bonus will be included in this month’s salary payments.
According to the official, the MACL board decided on this amount after deducting dividends from last year's profits.
With over 4,200 employees, MACL, one of the most profitable state-owned enterprises in the Maldives, will allocate more than MVR 105 million for this year's bonuses.
This marks the third consecutive year that the company has distributed MVR 25,000 bonuses to its staff.
In a move to maintain financial health, MACL also announced cost-cutting measures last June, aiming for reductions of 20% to 30% in 10 specific areas.
Importantly, the company assured that these cuts would not involve layoffs or reductions in employee benefits.
