Abdul Majeed Mahir, a prominent figure in the field of Maldivian traditional medicine and history, passed away on Thursday.

Abdul Majeed Mahir, 90, a son of Mohamed Didi from Velaanage, was a Maldivian traditional medicine physician and a teacher in Maldivian history and customs. He held the following public offices:

  • Deputy minister of Finance

  • President of Male Municipality

  • Head of MWSC

Abdul Majeed Mahir is known as a very respected, serviceable and experienced personality among the Maldivian senior citizens.

Abdul Majeed Mahir was the first husband of President Mohamed Amin’s daughter Amina Mohamed Amin. The children of the marriage include:

  • Former defence minister Ameen Faisal

  • Former Maldivian High Commissioner in UK Dr Farahnaz Faisal

President Mohamed Muizzu sent his condolences to the family.

"The late Mahir was a valuable father who raised many intellectually capable children who served the country. May Allah grant patience to the family of the late Abdul Majeed Mahir. May Allah keep him in the blessings and mercy of paradise," the president's post on X read.
