Police to seize Bassam's 2 apartments over FAM fraud
The $1 million was allegedly the proceeds of a $1.9 million Covid-19 relief loan from FIFA to help clubs cope with the financial crisis
Police are working on seizing two apartments allegedly bought by former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) president Bassam Adeel Jaleel with money funnelled from FAM funds.
Prosecutor General's Office has charged Bassam last month over the two apartments he allegedly bought with funds MMA loaned from FIFA to help football clubs overcome the financial difficulties faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Police told the media on Friday that the Criminal Court had issued a week's notice to seize the two apartments under their custody. The notice expires on Saturday.
"Police are taking necessary steps to seize the two apartments," the message said.
The two apartments are both in Amin Avenue in Hulhumale.
