A modern operation theatre at the government-owned and operated Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital's (IGMH) Dharumavantha wing has opened.
The theatre will also have a fully equipped catheter lab.
The hospital said on X that that the theatre will perform neurological and heart surgeries and surgeries for broken blood vessels.
The theatre has been developed to provide world-class services in Maldives.
The theatre was put into use after it was completed and unused for six years due to problems with the motherboard circuits. The theatre has been opened for use after the problems have been resolved, IGMH officials were quoted as saying.
The Dharumavantha wing is a 25-storey building constructed at a cost of more than MVR 2 billion during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen. The hospital was built adjacent to the main hospital IGMH and is now used to provide services to some departments of the IGMH.
