The President’s Office announced Monday that President Mohamed Muizzu’s recent trip to New York, where he addressed the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, cost the government MVR 2.4 million.
The visit took place from September 20-29.
In a statement, the President’s Office highlighted that the expenses for the trip were notably lower than the costs incurred during similar visits by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The previous administration undertook two trips to attend the UN General Assembly, which involved significantly higher expenditures:
-
2019 visit: MVR 4.1 million
-
2021 visit: MVR 5.3 million
The President’s Office emphasised the savings, stating, “The government’s expenditure on this visit has been significantly reduced compared to the previous two visits."
