Man remanded until trial end for kidnapping, assault

A man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting a Maldivian national has been remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Saeed, 48, of Suwaasaage, Addu Feydhoo, was taken into custody on Thursday. He is accused of abducting a 44-year-old Maldivian man and subjecting him to physical harm.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the victim was rescued during an operation conducted by officers responding to the reported kidnapping. The injured man is currently receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Saeed was brought before the Criminal Court on Friday, where the court ordered that he remain in custody until the trial is concluded. The police have not disclosed further details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the incident, citing an ongoing investigation.
