Feasibility work completed for 100 bed hospital in Villimale
According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the hospital's design phase will commence immediately following the memorandum.
Infrastructure Ministry announced on Thursday that the completion of a feasibility survey for the construction of a 100-bed hospital in Villimale.
Following the successful survey, a memorandum of feasibility was signed between the Infrastructure Ministry of the Maldives and the Chinese government to proceed with the project.
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Infrastructure Ministry by minister Dr Abdulla Mutthalib, while the Chinese government was represented by Ambassador Wang Li Jin.
According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the hospital's design phase will commence immediately following the memorandum.
The project will be developed as a tertiary-level healthcare facility, offering specialised medical services.
The 100-bed hospital will be constructed with the support of the Chinese government, provided as part of a grant assistance programme.
The letter of exchange formalised the project was previously signed between the two countries in May 2024.
The new hospital aims to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community with a range of specialised treatments, including care for major ulcers, treatment for decubitus (pressure) sores, and other advanced medical services.
Additionally, the hospital will feature a dedicated centre for elderly care and long-term admitted patients, reflecting a focus on comprehensive healthcare.
Muhthalib stated that the hospital is expected to be completed within two years, with construction set to begin next year. Once operational, the facility will significantly enhance healthcare infrastructure in Villimale, offering improved access to quality medical services.
