PNC membership surpasses 65,000, MP Falah says
He expressed confidence that with continued effort, the goal of reaching 75,000 members by mid-November will be realised.
Ibrahim Falah, the parliamentary group leader for the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC), announced on Saturday that the party's membership count has now reached 65,000, marking considerable growth in recent months.
This increase is part of a larger goal set by President Mohamed Muizzu to reach 75,000 members by November 17.
To achieve this target, the PNC has launched an intensive membership drive, primarily focused on Male but also extending to other islands. This event brings together PNC Members of Parliament, political leaders, and government officials, who are divided into seven constituencies in the city and will also fill out membership forms in various regions of the Maldives.
“We have been working through the relevant teams for the past two months, and, God willing, we have now reached over 65,000 members,” Falah stated.
He expressed confidence that with continued effort, the goal of reaching 75,000 members by mid-November will be realised.
Falah noted that such figures have not been recorded in the party's history. He sees this growth as a testament to the strong support for President Muizzu and his administration’s policies. According to Falah, the public response reflects a favourable reception to the government’s performance over the past year.
“One of the most important things this shows is the policy of our president, and the people are giving such a response because of the perfection of the affairs of this government,” Falah remarked.
Currently, the PNC trails the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which, as per the Elections Commission’s latest data, has about 50,000 members. This puts MDP in the lead as the largest political party in the Maldives. However, PNC’s rapid membership drive reflects a determined effort to close this gap, with the goal of emerging as the largest political party in the Maldives.
