The Supreme Council of Islamic Fatwa has issued a ruling stating that dyeing hair black is religiously permissible.
The fatwa, released on Thursday, addresses a long-standing belief that applying black dye to hair is not allowed under Islamic teachings. The Council clarified that Islamic scholars hold two principal views on the matter, both grounded in established jurisprudential reasoning.
According to the fatwa, the differing views stem from scholarly ijtihad (independent legal reasoning). The Council noted that as this is an issue based on ijtihad, both interpretations have been accepted among scholars.
However, the fatwa further stated that the position supporting the permissibility of black hair dye is supported by stronger evidence.
The Council concluded: “Therefore, the members of the Supreme Council of Islamic Fatwa insist that it is permissible to dye your hair.”
