Parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of Abdul Haseeb Ismail as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
President Mohamed Muizzu forwarded Haseeb’s name to parliament on October 14 for consideration.
Haseeb’s appointment fills the position left vacant after Fuwad Thaufeeq's term concluded on October 24. The parliamentary vote on Haseeb’s appointment resulted in unanimous approval, with 67 members voting in favour.
Haseeb previously served as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, a role he held from 2019 until his dismissal in 2021 due to conduct issues.
