President to confer highest award in education to Dr Zahir Hussain

Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain will be conferred with the honour at the official function to mark this year’s Republic Day.

President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to confer the highest civilian award, the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (ODRI), on Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain for his distinguished service and contributions to the education sector of Maldives.

Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain is currently the Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).

The president decided to confer the honour on Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of education in the Maldives, and educating the people of the Maldives.

Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain will be conferred with the honour at the official function to mark this year’s Republic Day. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 8:15 pm at Dharubaaruge on November 10.

The president’s National Award for Special Achievement will also be presented at the ceremony. This year, 40 achievers selected by the Special Awards Committee will receive the award.

At the function, 53 persons will also receive awards for service to the state. The National Awards Committee selects the nominees for the awards for service to the state.
