Home minister Ali Ihsan confirmed that the apartment had previously been raided by police in connection with drug-related cases.

Police have extended the remand of 12 individuals arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a Maldivian man and an attempted assault involving his finger in an apartment in Hulhumale’s Hiyaa flats.

The incident took place Thursday night in an apartment on the 20th floor of the H9 tower.

Police reported that five of the suspects have been remanded for five days, while the other seven will remain in custody for seven days.

Home minister Ali Ihsan confirmed that the apartment had previously been raided by police in connection with drug-related cases.

"It was a location identified by police for drug activity, with raids conducted there approximately four times before,” Ihsan stated.

Ihsan added that proposed legal amendments would address procedures for handling properties linked to repeated criminal activity. He also noted that existing agreements with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) prohibit illegal activities in these apartments.

“If the apartment owner is informed of such incidents and they continue, we will take action through a separate process,” Ihsan said.
