Monetary Authority of Maldives (MMA) has launched an internal investigation after the personal information of one of its senior employees was leaked on social media earlier this week.

The breach, which has raised concerns about data privacy, has prompted swift action from the authority to identify the source of the leak and prevent further violations.

An official from the MMA confirmed that the authority's internal audit department has begun looking into the matter.

According to the official, the investigation is being conducted to determine how and why sensitive personal information was shared without authorisation.

In addition to the internal audit, the MMA has also sought assistance from the police in connection with certain aspects of the case.

The MMA official emphasised that the authority is taking all necessary steps to ensure the protection of its employees' personal data. This includes reviewing internal procedures and systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
