G. Balasubramanian has been officially appointed as India’s High Commissioner to the Maldives.
This post was previously held by Munu Mahawar, who served as the High Commissioner since 2021.
The announcement was made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, emphasizing Balasubramanian‘s extensive experience in diplomatic service.
Prior to this appointment, Balasubramanian held the position of Ambassador to Nigeria, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral relations between India and the African nation.
With his upcoming deployment to the Maldives, Balasubramanian is expected to take charge of furthering India’s ties with the island nation, which is a significant partner in the Indian Ocean region. The Maldives holds strategic importance for India due to its location and its role in regional security, trade, and cultural exchange.
