Zakiyya’s eldest son arrested over Holhudhoo fight
The fight reportedly took place in a local café, where a group of people was discussing Zakiyya’s death.
Moosa Rimzee, 30, the eldest son of Zakiyya Moosa, whose mysterious death in September shocked the island community of N. Holhudhoo, has been arrested in connection with a violent altercation that occurred last Thursday.
The purpose reportedly took place in a local café, where a group of people was discussing Zakiyya’s death. According to eyewitness accounts, Rimzee allegedly attacked one of the individuals involved in the conversation, later identified as Ahmed Shujau.
Speaking to the media, Shujau described the attack:
“The man came from behind. I was sitting inside the café. He came from behind, hit me on the right shoulder, and dragged me down. About five people who were with me in the café saw the incident very clearly,” he said.
Following the attack, Rimzee was arrested under a court order. Police confirmed his detention on Saturday night but stated that no one else has been arrested in connection with the altercation. While a crowd gathered near the island’s police station after the incident, it remains unclear whether authorities are actively investigating the circumstances of the fight.
The arrest has reignited public interest in the case of Zakiyya Moosa, whose body was discovered with multiple injuries in September. At a press conference held in March, police ruled out foul play, providing the following findings:
-
1-
Medical Examination: Zakiyya’s body was transported to Malé for examination by a pathologist, who concluded there were no injuries inflicted by another person.
-
2-
Wound Analysis: Multiple wounds were found on both sides of her neck, including three deep wounds on the left side and two on the right. Hesitation marks were also noted, consistent with self-inflicted injuries.
-
3-
Scene Evidence: No signs of another person’s involvement were discovered at the scene.
Police reported a mark on Zakiyya’s chest but stated that it did not match the characteristics of an injury.
Despite these findings, the case has left the community divided, with many questioning the official conclusion of no external involvement. The discussion of Zakiyya’s death, even months later, continues to fuel tensions on the island.
