Police seize weapons, arrest 3 in gang crime operation

Three individuals have been arrested following a raid conducted under the new gang law in Henveiru.
Police reported that the operation, carried out on Wednesday under a court order, targeted a house suspected of being used as a safe house and for storing weapons.
According to police, the court order was issued on 3 September 2025 to search the property on suspicion that it was being used to plan serious crimes and store sharp and dangerous weapons. During the search, officers recovered a sharp weapon.
The three individuals arrested have been identified as Ahmed Nawaz, 30, of MA. Morningview; Ibrahim Zaidan, 22, of MA. Morningview; and Mohamed Shidad, 22, of Bashimaage, L. Maabaidhoo.
Police confirmed that Nawaz was remanded in custody for 30 days, while Zaidan and Shidad were remanded for 15 days each. The remand orders were issued under the Prevention of Gang Crimes and Other Dangerous Offences Act.
In addition to the sharp weapon recovered, the court order noted that two knives were seized from the suspects. Police said the case remains under investigation.
