Nadella harbour contractor in Jan, president says

President Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday assured the residents of GDh. Nadella that contractors for the construction of the island’s harbour will be announced by the end of January.

The announcement came during the president’s visit to Nadella, the second destination on his tour of islands in Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaal Atolls. Addressing the residents, President Muizzu emphasised that the harbour project is a top priority for the island’s development.

The president acknowledged that while a small harbour had been developed in Nadella previously, it no longer meets the needs of the growing community. He assured residents that the government is committed to building a new, modern harbour to address their concerns.

“This month, I will announce the recruitment of contractors for the construction of a new harbour, designed to meet the requirements of Nadella,” the president said.

He added that alongside the harbour project, efforts will be made to address flooding and erosion, which have been persistent challenges for the island.

“The highest priority within the currently approved budget is the construction of the new harbour. We will also address the flooding and erosion issues to provide a long-term solution,” he said.
